WHAT TO WEAR

  • Choose outfits that make you feel confident and comfortable. Pick clothes that reflect who you are!

  • Avoid busy patterns, solid colors or subtle patterns photograph better than large, loud prints. Avoid logos or words on clothing as the can be distracting.

  • Layer your outfits to add variety and dimension to your photos. Think denim jacket, cardigan or even your letterman jacket.

  • Make sure your clothes fit well. If they are too tight or too loose, it can be unflattering on camera. Again, just make sure you feel comfortable!

  • Don’t forget to think about your footwear. Choose shoes that complement your outfit. You can bring an extra pair of shoes to walk in if what you want in the pictures isn’t very comfortable.

  • If you choose to do more than one outfit, try to have one dressy/formal outfit, and one that is more casual.

 CHECKLIST

  • Comb or brush

  • Makeup for retouches

  • Wrinkle remover spray

  • All outfits

  • Accessories (hats, jewelry, ties, etc.)

  • Props (footballs, volleyballs, pom poms, instruments, etc.)

  • Towel for sweat (depending on the season, it can get really hot during your session!

  • Letterman jacket if you have one

COLORS THAT WORK BEST

  • Neutral tones, like beige, white, gray or even navy blue tend to look great on everyone. These are timeless and versatile choices that won’t distract from your face.

  • Rich, solid colors add vibrancy without being overpowering. Think jewel tones, emerald green, sapphire blue, ruby red).

  • Earth tones like olive green, burnt orange, and mustard yellow can also work well.

  • Try to avoid bright, neon colors, these can often cause color reflection onto your skin making your skin tone look unnatural. If you feel that neon colors are something you’d really like to incorporate, let me know and we can talk about how to include those.

  • Choose colors that complement your natural undertones. Warm undertones tend to look great in earthy colors, while cool undertones look great in blues and purples.

HAIR AND MAKEUP

  • For your makeup, keep it natural and consider enhancing your features with a bit of foundation, mascara and some light blush. Avoid heavy makeup that could look harsh on camera.

  • Trim your hair a few days before your session so it looks fresh. Avoid drastic cuts or color changes right before your session.

  • Avoid any tanning sprays or lotions, these do not photograph well and make you look orange and it makes the photos really difficult to edit to look natural.

  • Consider hiring a hair and makeup artist, this can take a lot of stress out of the process and working with someone who knows what will look good on camera can make a huge difference

Here are some hair and make up artists I would recommend:

Genica Lee

Betty Rose

ADDITIONAL TIPS

Props: if you want to incorporate something meaningful (sports gear, instruments, etc.), please do! Try to only chose 2-3 props maximum so that we have plenty of time to make sure and focus on you for the majority of the session.

Be on Time & Take a Breath: Plan to arrive a little early to get settled and most importantly — relax! The more comfortable you are, the better your photos will turn out!

Prepare Your Vision: Hop on Pinterest/Instagram/Tik Tok and see what kinds of senior portraits you’re drawn to. Take note of a few poses you like and outfits you’re drawn to. Save any pictures you like so you can show me, I’m more than happy to try out some poses you like! But don’t worry, I have lots of poses up my sleeve, so I’ve got you covered if you’d rather just let me handle that part.

The most important thing to remember is to be yourself! The best portraits capture who you really are, so don’t feel pressured to be someone you’re not. Don’t worry, I will work with you to make sure you are comfortable enough to make that happen. This session is all about celebrating you, so enjoy the process and have fun with it!

I’m so excited to work with you and see what magic we create!

All my love,

Haley
