Tyler and Katie met in high school in 2010 when Katie was a sophomore and Tyler a junior. They shared their Spanish and Ceramics classes together. February 4, 2011 they started dating, little did they know they would decide to spend the rest of their lives together. Tyler and Katie spent their entire college careers making a long distance relationship work for them! They like to tell people that long-distance worked really well for them. Both of them got to experience college, work, and grow as individuals, while still having each other to lean on. They would have liked to have been able to be together in the same city, but Katie was pursuing her dream of becoming a nurse at New Mexico State University, while Tyler was pursuing his dream of working in the film industry and teaching students at the University of New Mexico. Despite the odds, 4 1/2 years later, they would get engaged! Tyler proposed by convincing Katie they were going up to the family cabin in the Jemez Mountains to do a newborn photoshoot with their nephew Parker. When they arrived to the location, Tyler suggested that he and Katie take some photos of just them while waiting for the rest of the family to arrive. As they were taking photos, Tyler set the camera to videotape and began telling Katie how much he loved her and that if they were going to take family photos, it would only make sense that she be officially part of the family. At that point, Tyler got down on one knee and asked her if she would marry him. Katie cried and happily accepted. After some tears and hugs, Katie brought up that her makeup was now messed up for the family photos...to which Tyler responded that there were no family photos and he used that excuse to trick her to get her to his favorite spot in the world without suspecting a thing.

Their wedding was filled with so many personal touches to make their day so enjoyable for everyone who shared it with them. Katie and Tyler requested that we take a group photo of everyone in attendance at the wedding during the reception which is something I’ve never personally done before at a wedding, but it was such a great thought and it worked out really well! Katie’s blush colored wedding dress was absolutely stunning, but what most people didn’t see was that she had a heart shaped piece of blue fabric cut from one of her late fathers shirts. Her garter was also made by a family friend from her grandmothers garter and her mothers veil, they added a cross charm to symbolize Katie’s faith. After Tyler shared a dance with his mother, Katie danced with each of her three brothers, it was very touching to watch. There was another wedding going on in a different ballroom and the bride and groom from that wedding came over to Katie and Tyler’s reception to congratulate them and wish them a long and happy marriage, how many people get to say that they have a picture with a bride and groom who got married on the same day as them! They ended the night by having a sparkler send off with all of their friends and family to help them start their marriage off to a bright start.

All my love,

Haley
